    Mayor's Diary 14/02/22

    Mayors Diary 14-02-22

The Lord Lieutenant of Somerset Annie Maw planted Wells’ first Queen’s Green Canopy tree at St Cuthbert’s Junior School in the autumn.

She was due to plant another at the Cathedral School last on February 7th but she had a cold and could not come. By chance her No 2, Vice Lord Lieutenant David Godsal, who lives on Exmoor, was in Wells that morning and came to do the honours. In the photograph he is the man in a fawn overcoat. The pupils gave him a hand.

The guests included the Mayor of Wells and the High Sheriff of Somerset, Thomas Sheppard.

The Queen’s Green Canopy is an initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
