    Mayor's Diary 29/07/21

    Mayors Diary 29/07/21

The Mayor invited Annie Maw, the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, to join a celebration at Cedars Hall for the Wells Coronavirus Network volunteers on the evening of Saturday, July 24th.

There was music, Thai food and a little wine all funded by a donation from local NHS practices to show their appreciation for the many weeks of help the WCN volunteers gave as marshals for the vaccination programme at West Mendip Hospital in all weathers.

The Lord Lieutenant spoke to the crowd on the lawn, praising WCN and the 560 volunteers it recruited.

Annie Maw also said Wells was her favourite city and she hoped to retire here.

Afterwards the Mayor told her: “Your presence was warmly appreciated by our volunteers and your speech inspirational.

“Should you, at a hopefully long distant time in the future, choose to retire to our wonderful little city of Wells, rest assured that we will look after you very well.”

The photo shows Annie Maw with WCN volunteers on the Cedars Hall lawn with Town Crier Len Sweales who read one of his inimitable cries and led three cheers for the volunteers.
