    Mayor's Diary 07/02/22

    Mayors Diary 7-2-2022

Jean Imray, the first Wells City Archivist and a Trustee of Wells & Mendip Museum, spent many years researching the first history of the first almshouse to be built in the city.

At the time of her death in 2015, she was close to completing it.

So friends and colleagues felt it would be a fitting tribute to ensure that the work was published.

At long last the 200-page illustrated book called Wells Old Almshouse was launched on February 2nd.

Stuart Andrews, Honorary Librarian of Wells & Mendip Museum, who are publishing the book, and a personal friend of Jean presented a copy of the book for use by residents of the Almshouses to Charles Cain, Chair of the Board of the City of Wells Almshouses.

The event was organised by Julia Wood, the current Wells City Archivist who is retiring in the spring after 10 years in the post. She is a lovely person, a joy to work with, and will be sadly missed.
