    Wells Lantern Parade

    Wells Lantern Parade

The Mayor joined the Wells Lantern Parade, a Festival of Animals on Saturday 18th January.

The Lantern Procession gathered inside Wells Cathedral at 6:15pm and accompanied by the ‘Ambling Band’ paraded twice around the inside of the building before setting out to light up the dark January night round the medieval part of the City.

Starting on Cathedral Green the parade went through the ancient Penniless Porch and Bishop's Eye, to the Bishop's Palace, and back to the Market Place. The Lantern Parade was organised by Project Factory, a group of volunteers from our community who work together to create partnership projects in and around our city. The lanterns were all home made and included wonderfully imaginative and colourful designs including a white elephant, a piranha fish, a tiger, a turtle, sharks, swans, jellyfish and a Feathers McGraw from Wallace and Gromit! Many of the lanterns were made in special workshops run by the Project Factory for families in Wells.

The Lantern Parade is a wonderful annual community event to banish the winter blues and gets bigger and better every year!
