    Wells Moat Boat Race

    Wells Moat Boat Race

On the August bank holiday Monday 26th, The Mayor of Wells, Cllr Jasmine Browne was delighted to be invited by the City of Wells Lions to be one of the judges of rafts and fancy dress at the 2024 Wells Moat Boat Race alongside Dr. Megan Daffurn, Canon Chancelllor of Wells Cathedral and also by St.John’s Ambulance, Wells to be one of their crew members!

Best raft went to ‘The Likely lads’ for their fantastic Thomas the Tank Engine boat and best fancy dress to the Bishop’s Palace for their swan outfits!

Best raft Juniors was the Young Farmers for their cow raft complete with a tail at the back and best fancy dress for Wells Rugby Club with their fetching moustaches!

It was a fantastic day of racing in the moat with perfect weather, a great, enthusiastic crowd, and fun, competitive racing. No boat, however, was a match for the formidable ‘Pirates of the Full Moon', who powered their way to victory in almost all their races and will now need to build a larger trophy cabinet for the awards ceremony to take place later on in the year!

The Mayor would like to thank everyone who took part, including the organisers, the water safety team, St John Ambulance First Aid, and every team and crew member.

All proceeds from the event are donated to local charitable organisations by the City of Wells Lions.

    Another fantastic day for Wells!
