    Mayor's Diary 09/10/20

    Mayors Diary 09/10/20

The parade through Wells city centre was cancelled because of the Government’s Covid-19 restrictions.

For the same reason the Remembrance service in St Cuthbert’s Church and the wreath-laying ceremony at the cenotaph outside were cancelled by the church and the Royal British Legion’s Wells branch.

Instead the Legion decided in the interests of public safety to lay all the wreaths before 11am to avoid the risk of a crowd gathering, except for the one on behalf of the city which I laid in the rain at 9am.

However St Cuthbert’s Vicar, the Reverend Sam Denyer, organised a beautiful pre-recorded video service on their Facebook page.

I read a lesson on behalf of the city and the Reverend Clare Cowlin also read a lesson. It was her first role as Mayor’s Chaplain. Sadly Clare could not attend the Mayor Making ceremony in Wells Town Hall last month because of the Rule of Six.
