    Mayor's Diary 10/06/2022

    Mayors Diary 10/06/2022

Introducing the new Mayor of Wells, Cllr Stewart Cursley and the Mayoress Mrs June Cursley

It is with tremendous pride and honour that I took the oath of office as the 648th Mayor of Wells.

I went to Horrington School, then the Blue School.

My parents were Douglas and Elma Cursley and my father for many years was Town Clerk, one of the predecessors of the current Town Clerk Steve Luck. I am certain both of my parents would be very proud of this achievement. I received a humbling message today from my nephew in Australia who labelled the achievement as “awesome” and “cool”

My wife June a JP, is the Mayoress, she also volunteered for 15 years at the Citizens Advice Bureau in Wells.  We have four children and three grandchildren.

1974, was the year of the last major local government reorganisation.  I am very keen that the assets transferred away from Wells in 1974 are rightly returned to Wells. To begin, the bishop’s barn and the adjoining playground and recreation ground should be returning to the control of Wells City Council in late July.

Each year, the Mayor chooses a charity.  This year I have chosen PROMISEworks, I will provide more information about them in my next message.

We are looking forward to meeting as many residents and organisations as possible this year. This is a picture of us last weekend at the Jubilee celebrations.
