    Mayor's Diary 20/05/21

    Mayors Diary 20/05/21

Their Royal Highnesses Edward and Sophie, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, were here to recognise the hardships and tragedies of Covid in Wells, and how the hundreds of volunteers, especially from the Wells Coronavirus Network, helped residents through it.

But also to see how the city’s economy can recover and find positives from the legacy of Covid.

On the grass of St Cuthbert’s Churchyard they met representatives of WCN, its partner organisations and Sew Buntiful.

Then the Mayor escorted Edward up the right-hand side of the High Street and into the Market Place, while Councillor Sarah Briton did the same with Sophie on the left hand side of the street.

The Royal couple also visited the Connect Centre, Wells Cathedral where the Countess in Patron of the Choristers Trust, and the Bishop’s Palace where the Earl planted a tree as part of a project to mark the Queen’s Platinum Anniversary.
