    Wells Youth Question Time

    Wells Youth Question Time

The Mayor of Wells, Councillor Jasmine Browne, welcomed 34 students from our two secondary schools to a ‘Wells Youth Question Time’ on Thursday 21st November as part of UK Parliament Week.

The Mayor chaired the meeting and took questions from the audience, ranging in age from 15-18 to a panel made up of Tessa Munt MP, Theo Butt-Philip Somerset Council and Louis Aghabani Deputy Mayor of Wells City Council. Councillors Denis, Orrett, Cursley and Welch also assisted the panel.

Questions ranged from emotive topics like the assisted dying bill and the future of farming in Somerset to more Wells-based topics such as improving local transport links and providing better services for young people in our City.

Refreshments afterwards in the Town Hall gave students and teachers from the two schools the opportunity to mix and ask direct questions to the panelists.

The Mayor’s focus this year has been on giving young people a voice in our City and talks are underway to start a Wells Youth City Council next year.
