Wells Festival of Literature is now in its 32nd Year!
The Mayor was proud and pleased to support the biggest literature festival in the country run entirely by community volunteers which has, over the the past few years, funded educational initiatives to the tune of £30,000 for local schools. Funded by ticket sales, competition entries and generous local sponsors and businesses, it has helped support many local educational projects one of which is the now traditional series of talks to Year Six pupils (more than 850 of them in 2023!) by a best-selling author. Not only is the event entirely funded by Wells Festival of Literature, children are also provided with subsidised books to read at home and for their school library.
During the week-long Festival novelists, historians, clerics, artists, scientists, journalists; politicians, poets and professors all share their expertise and their enjoyment and excitement of reading as well as help instill a love of literature in the next generation.
The Mayor was lucky enough to support four Literature Festival events and is pictured here with comedian and quiz-master, Paul Sinha, who closed the week with a talk about his book entitled ‘One Sinha Lifetime’ which he describes as “comedy, disaster and one man’s quest for happiness”.
The Festival would not have been possible without the hardworking organisers and volunteers in our community to whom the Mayor would like to say a huge thank you for a very successful, action-packed and entertaining Wells Literature Festival 2024.
