The Mayor of Wells attended an evening of music with the Drakensberg Boys Choir School in collaboration with Wells Cathedral School Choristers and Wells Cathedral School Chamber Choir and Orchestra on Wednesday 25th September. Drakensberg Boys Choir is located near Winterton, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, at the foot of the Central Drakensberg mountain range. Performing in a variety of genres such as jazz, pop and African music, the choir is based in South Africa but also tours internationally.
Their visit to Wells was performed to a packed audience in the presence of Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Edinburgh CHVO, patron of the Wells Cathedral Chorister Trust. The Mayor was honoured to Welcome the Duchess of Edinburgh on behalf of the City of Wells and enjoyed the wonderful music, especially the joining together of the three choirs for a truly amazing rendition of Hansel’s Zadok the Priest. The Mayor is pictured here with one of the stars of the Drakensberg South African Choir after the concert with the permission of his parents and teachers.
