The 79th Anniversary of the Hiroshima Bombing

The 79th Anniversary of the Hiroshima Bombing

A candle lit peace vigil was held to mark the 79th Anniversary of the Hiroshima Bombing at the Bishop’s Palace Moat on 6th August at 8.30 pm.

A minute silence was held followed by a reading of a message of peace from the Mayor of Hiroshima, Kazumi Matsui 松井 一實. Pictured here are the Mayor of Wells, Cllr Jasmine Browne and the Mayor of Glastonbury, Cllr Lokabee Lokabandhu. They read the message of peace together in a show of unity between our two communities and in solidarity with Mayors around the world remembering the anniversary of the bombings.

Lanterns made and decorated in Hiroshima were floated on the moat as the sun set.
